A newly formed Assembly Group on Animal Welfare held its first meeting on 3 March. Speaking as vice chair, Lyttle said that the group hopes to end animal cruelty in Northern Ireland.

Lyttle, an outspoken supporter of animal rights, asked the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development what progress has been made on animal cruelty legislation. He also condemned recent reports of animal mistreatment in East Belfast, requesting that the Minister advise the public on how to take action against such crimes.

United at Work 8

On 27 February, Business in the Community presented the findings of United at Work, an EU project promoting the integration of older and younger people, to leading Northern Ireland businesses. It was my privilege to support and welcome the event at Parliament Buildings.

As a strong advocate for Independent Advice Services in our community, I used the Welfare Reform Bill debate on 24 February to seek the assurances of the Minister for Social Development for adequate support for this vital provision.
